8th - 14th October 2020 (6 nights)
From: Penkridge (Staffs & Worcs
To: Solihull (Grand Union Canal)
Great Haywood Junction,
Camp Hill Locks,
After a couple of days bobbing around Penkridge, we'll have cleaned the boat and be ready for our new guests to join us after lunch on the 8th October.
With luck, we'll be near the services but if not, we'll liaise with them before hand and agree a meeting point where they can join the boat.
Heading off we'll aim to moor for our first evening tomorrow around Baswich - Shortly before Tixall Wide.
Next morning after a hearty breakfast (or some sort or another) we'll chug towards Great Haywood Junction, where we'll turn right on to the River Trent for a short while, before we join the Trent and Mersey canal. Handsacre will be our aim for tonight's mooring.
Upon leaving Handsacre, we continue our journey southwards along the Trent and Mersey – passing through a couple of locks we then arrive at Fradley Junction and make another right turn onto the Coventry Canal.
We follow the Coventry Canal as it makes it's way south to Fazeley Junction to join the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal and aim to stop for the day around Bromley Croft. Not many locks in this section but it's quite a long day.
Once rested and breakfasted, we'll depart, penning our way through a few locks along side the M42 Motorway and through Cudworth Tunnel – the scenery now is considerably more urban than of late as we approach Nechells our penultimate mooring.
Our final days chugging takes us to Salford Junction, where we make a sharp left hand turn on to the Grand Union Canal which will bring us to Garrison Locks, Bordesley Junction and ultimately on to Olton where we'll moor for the evening. Our guests will depart the following morning after breakfast to catch a train or continue the exploration of the area independently.
This is quite an urban /gritty cruise but still of interest to folk desiring a different view of the area.
