This trip will start from Llangollen Basin.  The easiest station to travel from is Chirk and it's advistable to pre-book a taxi before travelling as they are difficult in the area.  Alternatively, for an additional  charge, Ellis can return to Chirk and be as close to the station as possible on the day of arrival.

Total distance is 46 miles and 21 locks . There are 10 moveable bridges of which 1 is usually left open; 4 small aqueducts or underbridges and 3 tunnels (Ellesmere Tunnel (87 yards long), Chirk Tunnel (459 yards long) and Whitehouses Tunnel (191 yards long)) – a total of 3¼ furlongs underground and 2 major aqueducts (Chirk Aqueduct (237 yards long) and Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (336 yards long

Guests will arrive approximately 1.30pm on day one and after an introductory blah blah (and most probably glass of something fizzy) we’ll chug off to begin our adventure.

The aim will be to make it up as we go along  and should be able to have a nice leisurely trip but there might be a day or two when we need an early start/late finish so as to avoid queues at peak times on Grindley Brook Staircase or Hurleston Locks.

Pubs on route include;   Dusty Miller, Willeymoor Lock Tavern, The Greyhound, The Red Lyon, The Black Lion, The Ellesemere Hotel, The Narrowboat Inn, Lion Quays Hotel, The Poachers Pocket and the Sun Trevor.

NB – pub visits are NOT compulsory … just encouraged by Capt. Ellis.

At the end of the trip, we’ll have arrived in Nantwich – hopefully somewhere near the aqueduct on the Shropshire Union Canal, where   guests will depart following breakfast on the final morning.  It’s quite a  walk to the train station so it might be an idea for guests travelling by rail to pre-book a taxi.
