We’ll have spent a few days in or around Littleborough to clean the boat and take on provisions for the next leg of our journey when our next guests join us on the 13th. Depending on their arrival time we’ll set off and pass Clegg Hall and a couple of locks then through Edinburgh Way tunnel (121 yards) – aiming to travel as far as Castelton before mooring for our first evening together.
Next morning we’ll say our farewells to Castleton and pen through a couple of locks before arriving at Slattocks and onwards through lane side locks (6) and over a small aqueduct before arriving in Chadderton - a mix of industry and housing where we’ll continue before we moor for the evening around Failsworth – lock 65….which is unlocked by CRT at 8.30 am the following morning to allow 4 boats per day passage into Manchester. Speaking (well writing) of the next day, it will be our aim to get into Central Manchester and somewhere after Dukes Lock – (92) or Castlefield Basin on the Bridgewater Canal where we’ll moor - in the Centre of Manchester having passed through the Rochdale 9 and Canal Street.
If the group would like, we’ll try and spend a couple of nights in Manchester centre before (us being gluttons for punishment) we go back through the Rochdale 9 and turn right on to the Ashton canal and head towards Ashton-Under-Lyne to moor for the evening.
Our final days journey will take us through Stalybridge – an up and coming town where the canal is the star of the show. We’ll moor for a few hours before we contnue our journey through Scout Tunnel (205yards) and onwards to our final mooring destination of Shawhall back on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal where we'll moor for our final evening for our guests to depart the following morning.
