Wolverhampton to Coseley
After a couple of days off to visit family in the area, new guests may join us at Autherley Junction and we’ll continue a short distance to Aldersley Junction on the Staffs an Worcs – where well turn left on to the Wolverhampton Level mainline . Heading up the staircase at Wolverhampton (21 locks into the city) first passing through Coseley tunnel then turning right at Factory Junction heading towards Dudley, we’ll moor to spend the next full day in Dudley.
When we leave Dudley, we’ll travel up the Wolverhampton Level once more, passing Netherton Tunnel (not through - at least the skipper will be relieved) we arrive at Oldbury Locks and turn right at Oldbury Junction to pass over Stewart Aqueduct (over a canal) we again turn right to continue on the Wolverhampton level. Just 3 locks are now between us and tonight’s mooring around Sandwell/Smethwick Junction.
Once again on the Birmingham Level mainline and travelling towards Birmingham, at Old Turn Junction (formerly known as Deep Cuttings) we turn left heading towards Farmer’s Bridge (13 locks) we fall steeply heading towards Aston Junction – turning left again, to descend Aston locks (11) to spend the night in Aston.
Next morning we continue the same direction and at Salford Junction we take a left turn to join Tame Valley canal which we follow to Perry Bar and another 13 locks. As we continue we pass under the M5 and alongside the M6 for a while – travelling still down the Tame Valley canal towards Oker Hill and then stopping for the day at Tame Valley Junction.
After a good breakfast, we’ll chug onwards, turning left on to the Walsall Canal passing through Ryders Green locks (8 of them) to Pudding Green Junction, where we’ll turn right back on the Birmingham Level mainline. We next arrive at Tipton Green passing through 3 locks (Factory Locks) up through Coseley Tunnel where our guests will leave us to return home or continue their travels independently.
