Etruria - Wolverhampton
It'll have been another quick turn around at Etruria but we'll be ready to depart at 12 noon and set off on the next leg of our sojourn.
Leaving Stoke, passing through the centre, with signs of the old pottery industry, we'll travel through pleasant open countryside and on to Trentham. We’ll arrive at Meaford Locks (which replace an earlier staircase of 3 – still visible at lock 33) and once through the locks (with an average rise of 10 ft, they’re deeper than most) we’ll head for Stone.
On leaving Stone, once again we’re back in a rural landscape where we’ll pass through a few small settlements like the pretty village of Weston Upon Trent. Next stop will be Great Haywood which will provide tonight’s mooring.
The following morning, we’ll turn right at Great Haywood Junction onto the Staffs and Worcs Canal. It won’t be long before we enter Tixall wide – where the canal resembles a lake rather than a canal . We pass through a couple more villages and under the M6 motorway before we arrive in Penkridge and moor for the evening.
Next day, we travel along side the M6 Motorway for a while before encountering 5 attractive locks – some accompanied by little bridges. The route is quite rural again for a while, before we pass under the M54 Motorway and arrive in the outskirts of Wolverhampton at Autherley Junction, where we’ll moor for the evening.
Having turned right at Autherley Junction on to the Shropshire Union Canal, where the countryside opens up once more our cruise will end and our guests can depart after breakfast.
