14th June - 19th June (5 nights)
From: Hanley - circa Bridge no 9 on the Trent and Mersey (via Caldon Arm)
To: Autherley Junction (Staffs & Worcs)
HIGHTLIGHTS: Caldon Canal,
We'll have been in the area for about a week by the time our next guests join us around bridge 9 on the Caldon Canal – Just of Eastwood Wood Road... only picked because it looks relatively easily accessible on foot. We'll be able to advise if this needs to change once we've explored the Caldon canal (mostly on foot) in the preceding days.
Assuming our guests arrive mid afternoon, we'll chug off in the direction of Etruria Junction and probably moor for our first evening on the Trent & Mersey main line. After a (hopefully) peaceful night, we'll head off and aim to end our day around Meaford – probably at the top lock to avoid stopping in a flight overnight.
Next morning after breakfast, we'll continue southwards and once we're through Meaford locks, will plan on stopping just before Great Haywood junction to allow exploration on foot.
Our penultimate day will take us on to the Staffs & Worcs canal and Tixall Wide and as far as Penkridge Visitor moorings.
Our final day's travel will take us to Authley Junction Visitor moorings where the cruise will end for our guests to depart after breakfast the following day.
None of the suggested stopping places are set in stone – we've not explored this area yet so we'll pretty much be taking things as we find them... it's hard to write up an area we don't know so please forgive the vagueness of this... we're happy enough to take the adventure as it comes and hope you will too.
