Manchester to Sandbach £395 pp
NOT a great start to our 2019 cruising season – THIS is a replacement trip due to the CRT Stoppage at Marple lock 11 over running by an extra 2 months... we HAD planned on Leaving Wakefield in early April... doing the Huddersfield Narrow canal and then on to Marple.
HOWEVER, as the Marple lock flight is still not going to be open – in order for us to get the boat to where we need to be from 12th April onwards, we've had to cancel our first trip (moving the guests to an alternative one later in the year) and Set off over the Pennines 3 weeks earlier than planned in order to go the 'long way around'.
Sulking now over, we're going to treat the frustration as an opportunity to spend a couple of days in Manchester ourselves (once we've crossed the Huddersfield, and Ashton canals) and then offer a 5 day trip from Manchester's Castlefield Basin down to Sandbach.
Our guests will hopefully join us after lunch on the 25th March and we'll depart on a short chug – aiming to spend our first evening together around Stretford.
Next morning we'll be off bright and early – probably wrapped in a duvet given the time of year, and will pass through pretty Lymm on the Birdgewater Canal before tie up for the evening around Grappenhall .
After breakfast, we chug on towards Preston Brook tunnel and our aim will be to moor somewhere near the top of the Anderton Boat lift on the Trent Mersey canal. With luck, there'll be time for a trip to the visitor centre before it closes.
On our final days travelling, we'll continue southwards over the River Dane Aqueduct , through Middlewich locks and try and moor for our final night together near Elton Moss bridge in Sandbach – where our guests will leave us after breakfast the following morning.
