After we’ve spent a couple of days pottering around Marple, we’ll be ready for our penultimate leg of our 2021 journey – a lovely trip from Marple Bugsworth Basin and back on the Upper Peak Forrest Canal.  This is a very shallow canal so we can’t rush but it’s worth the meandering as some of the views are spectacular.

As usual, we expect our guests to join us around 1.30pm and after our hellos and a glass of fiz (tea or coffee optional), we’ll pull ropes and begin our slow journey… probably tying up after a couple of hours somewhere nice and quiet for our first evening together.

The next morning after breakfast, we’ll chug onwards – initially to Whaley Bridge (just to say we’ve been) – winding at the end and then taking a right turn up the Bugsworth arm to the Basin.  Here we’ll top up with water and spend our 2nd evening together.

There are walking opportunities for those in the mood – AND a nice pub (without too long a walk for the Capt. & crew) to enjoy.   Once the road has quietened down, we’ll hopefully spend a pleasant evening there before departing after breakfast on our penultimate morning to begin retracing our steps (well chugs,) towards Marple. We’ll stop on route for a spot of lunch and aim to tie up wherever we can fit in … it can be a bit shallow so it might be a ‘lumpy’ night but we’ll make the best of it.

Our guests will depart after breakfast the following morning and we’ll clean the boat and re-stock ready for the trip back to Stone.

Total distance is 14 miles, 3¾ furlongs and 0 locks . There are 8 moveable bridges and 10 small aqueducts or underbridges.
