Hopefully, after our previous guests have departed, we'll have been able to hang around in Runcorn for a few days to prepare the boat for the next leg of our journey. Making full use of the short term licence we'll have had to buy, when our guests join us in the afternoon of 9th August, we'll set off towards Lymm – a lovely town where we'll aim to moor up for our first evening together.
Next day, we'll continue and head along the Bridgewater canal until, pass over Barton Swing Aqueduct and aim to get as far as Boothstown for our second evening together … we may have to use the boat yard services here and as there's a pub right on the canal side, it'd be rude not to nip in for swift one.
Our following morning will find us heading on the Leigh branch of the Leeds & Liverpool canal – hopefully stopping for the evening overlooking glorious Pennington Flash.
After a leisurely breakfast, we'll chug onwards towards Scotsman's flash and before long we'll find ourselves at the bottom of the Wigan flight... where we'll chuck a left turn and join the Leeds & Liverpool Mainline.
Passing through Wigan, we'll pass the famous “Wigan pier” and will probably continue until we reach pretty “Crooke” - If “Ambush” (coal and diesel boat) is moored up, we'll take the opportunity to top up the tank before we moor for the evening.
Next morning we'll continue onwards- probably having to stop and fill up the water tank once we've descended the lock into Appely Bridge. There's a canal side tearoom on a boat here which guests might like to pay a visit to... after which, we'll chug onwards and spend our final night moored on the visitor moorings.
Our guests will depart the following morning after breakfast and we'll use the handily placed canal side road to order a supermarket delivery to re-stock the boat in readiness for our continuing journey.
