We’ll have spent a few days in the centre of Manchester hopefully visiting friends and with luck, the boat will be moored in or near Castlefield Basin.

In preparation for a hard days lock wheeling ahead, we’ll hopefully all retire early for a peaceful evening before an early doors start through the famous Rochdale 9 and out of Manchester towards Failsworth – aiming to be around bridge 77a or 78 a… where we’ll all probably collapse in a big heap after a baptism of fire start to our cruise and moor for the night.

Next morning we’ll have a brief respite and aim to travel about 5 hours or so before tying up for the night around Blue Pitts lock in Castleton… depending on how much energy the group has left, we may travel a little further on.

The hard work begins again in earnest the following morning as we head up towards the summit – breaking our journey around Littleborough for the evening in preparation for an early morning start - hoping to get over the summit and the other side of lock 37 before CRT lock the gates for the evening.

Sunday should be a little more relaxed (it’s all relative up here) as we head into Todmorden for the evening where we can relax and perhaps have a wander around exploring the town.

After a good breakfast on Monday morning, we’ll continue onwards to our journey’s destination of Hebden Bridge where we’ll aim to stay on the visitor moorings for our final evening together – hopefully, someone will suggest a trip to a local hostelry for a well-deserved libation or the crew may well decide to mutiny.

Our guests will depart on the Tuesday at a time to suit them – with a possible (modestly priced) extension of 1 night available if they wish to spend extra time in Hebden Bridge. Take a look at the town’s website to see what’s on:

We plan on having a couple days in the town ourselves before the next guests join us for the final leg of our journey back to Wakefield.
