Llangollen to Chirk
(Via The Montgomery Canal)
Shrophire Union & Llangollen Canal
Pontycysyllte Aqueduct
£1291pp (£2582 per charter)
Cruise 17 - 12th - 18th August (6 nights)

This trip will start from Llangollen Basin. The easiest station to travel from is Chirk and it's advisable to pre-book a taxi before travelling as they are difficult in the area. Alternatively, for an additional charge, Ellis can return to Chirk and be as close to the station as possible on the day of arrival - (3 passages over the Ponty).

Total distance is 38 miles, and 20 locks

Guests will arrive approximately 1.30pm on day one and after an introductory blah blah (and most probably glass of something fizzy) Guests can have a wander into Llangollen before dinner... perhaps a walk up to Horseshoe falls or even the castle (if they are feeling energetic). Next morning after a DIY breakfast, we'll chug off to begin our adventure.

The section between Llangollen and Trevor is stunning - chaotic at times due to the narrows and quite often hirers having their first go on a boat hurtling towards us at full speed but stunning none the less.

Assuming we've made it down to Trevor in one piece, we'll go across the Pontcycsyllte Aqueduct ... possibly stopping around the corner out of the way for lunch to facilitate a photo opportunity (on foot down to the river) and then head onwards to moor around Chirk Marina.
The aim will be to make it up as we go along and should be able to have a nice leisurely trip but there might be a day or two when we need an early start/late finish so as meet our booking at Frankton Locks... it usually works out ok but meal times may be sporadic!

The Trip down the Monty is quite scenic but very shallow. We'll pretty much go down the locks one morning... head to the bottom to spend a night and then re-chug our route ready to come back up the flight on the penultimate morning.

At the end of the trip, we’ll have arrived at Chirk - hopefully near the pub and expect guests to depart following breakfast around 9.30 on the final morning.
